The Commerce Commission says using wool-associated terms to promote synthetic fabrics risks misleading consumers and could violate the Fair Trading Act.
This follows a Consumer NZ investigation showing several companies using wool-related terms to market clothing and textiles made from synthetic/wool blends, or containing no wool at all.
The general manager for The Campaign for Wool, Kara Biggs, told Farmers Weekly that companies mislead consumers by marketing synthetic fabrics as being wool or having wool-type attributes.
